Weider Arm Blaster

The Weider arm blaster was popularized by Arnold back in the day.  When you would flip open your muscle mag and see him doing curls in it with biceps bulging it was hard not to think, man that apparatus must work.  Of course, I had to buy one and I did.  Not using it for many years I found it hidden in my garage and decided to get it out and dust it off.  I forgot how good this simple device really is.  The primary purpose of this apparatus is to hold your elbows in place so the biceps and triceps do all the work, not your shoulders, chest and back.  We are all guilty of swinging the heavy weights around and want to believe that cheat curls do work, and don’t get me wrong I think they have a place, but every set shouldn’t be a cheat set only one per exercise.  Keeping your elbows in one place will force the muscle group to lift the weight and get much more efficiency out of the lift that if you didn’t use it.  Tip-Make sure to start with a lighter than normal weight, because with proper form, you will began to notice how much the cheating from hips, body, etc. you have been doing.  If you want to get crazy try placing your back against a pole, bar, wall, or even lying on a Bowflex or floor for extra form and intensity.

Exercises
Biceps-Pretty much any bicep curl exercise can be performed with the Arm Blaster, just pick a bar and go for it, keeping a nice steady rep without any swinging.  Try and focus on the squeeze of the bicep at the top of the rep then lower down slowly.  (EZ or cambered, barbell, dumbbell, reverse, cable machine bars, ropes, hammer, Bowflex, etc.)
Triceps-Same as the biceps, get creative grab any cable, back, or pulldown machine bar you want and plant the elbows against the arm blaster and squeeze from the top to the lockout at the bottom. Make sure and try not to lean into the push, keep your back straight and head up locking out at the top of the thigh. (EZ or cambered, barbell, reverse, cable machine bars, ropes, Bowflex, etc.)
